what’s inside ceramic design school:
Unit 00: Intro
We’ll jump right into what design is and why it’s one of the most important tools in your toolbox as a potter. You’ll learn my signature method for approaching inspiration and transforming those ideas into truly unique concepts.
unit 01: Line
The first element we explore together is more fascinating and compelling than it’s namely suggest. You’ll learn how to use Line to completely transform your pottery, as well as my go-to placement of Line.
unit 02: Color
There’s a science behind Color and you’ll learn important fundamentals, giving you the tools and confidence to design with Color. I’ll show you my 4 No-Fail Color Palettes and demo a variety of ways to use Color in your work.
Unit 04: Value
This is where you’ll learn how to design beautiful, interesting pots working only in shades of gray. We’ll explore clay bodies and underglazes in this unit and how they work together to create the final effect.
unit 05: Shape
There is so much to explore together in this unit. We’ll study different examples of Shape within pottery design and learn how to make balanced design decisions relating to Shape, scale, and repetition.
unit 06:form
How do truly good Forms work? Here we’ll discuss how to create beautiful, functional or sculptural Forms every single time. We’ll use unique creative design prompts to showcase your inner designer.
unit 07: texture
In this unit I share my favorite sources for adding Texture to my work and demo how I approach these decisions in my own work. Enjoy extensive ideas for adding Texture to your own work within the accompanying workbook and video lessons.
unit 08: Putting it all together
Now we put all these tools together to analyze the strongest work you’ve created. Using my proven strategies for bringing your design front and center, you’ll find freedom from perfectionism and doubt.
