A Summer Mood: Behind the collection
Have you ever wondered what's behind a collection of art? For my work it all starts with the idea of a feeling found in a fleeting moment. I think about places I've been, places I long to visit, those amazing conversations over good food and good drinks with even better friends. Family time around the table steeped in tradition…
FREEZE.
What came to mind for you? Was it a specific memory? Or a dream for a time ahead? Those are the kind of moments I anchor my work to. Usually it's a seasonal theme, which helps to hold me to the present. Be here now, I remind myself. That in mind, the shop is a SUMMER MOOD right now!
Daydreaming of long, hot summer days I began working on this collection in the earlier half of spring-- the ceramics process is long and carefully timed.
I wanted to create a moodboard for y'all to see the work the way I see it. The classic blue and white china we love, painted, splashed, and poured to remind us of the ocean.
The yellows are tart and mouthwatering like fresh lemonade.
In this small batch of porcelain you'll find clever Carafe Vases that serve as decanters on the table, and work equally well to hold a handful of sunflowers. The decorative painting is a modern interpretation of a classic cameo. These are one of my favorite designs I've made in a while, perfectly blending functional opportunities with visually beautiful decoration. (And that's something I love about working with clay!)
In the studio I have the next intimate collection of work going through the handmade process. You'll see everyday bowls (think soup, pasta, cereal sized,) cups, cheeseboards, and oval trays! From my hands to yours. ❤️
